A digital game contest is to be launch to students by the Scottish Government, working on behalf of the Glasgow 2014 Strategic Group, to tie in with the Commonwealth Games being held that year in Glasgow. The Group, chaired by First Minister Alex Salmond, are set to create the competition for Scottish higher education students to enter and will require a computer games development company to work with the winner in creating the game.
A source for The Scottish Government has said that the competition is still to be devised. The developer is required to possess the experience and knowledge of the necessary technology to create a web based digital game, working alongside the student designer to develop the winning concept and product a game that meets the appropriate ideals of the Commonwealth Games Federation and the Glasgow 2014 brand. The free to play game will be housed on the Glasgow 2014 website and should be designed to be played in 2D, with vector based scalable graphics and simple music and sound effects, as well as be playable through either a keyboard or a single-button mouse.
